Monumental desolation

I have read the history, of course, so I know the terrible events it commemorates or rather the recognition of how terrible the events were and perhaps function as an apology. But the feeling of desolation the weather provided the Holocaust-Manhmal augmented its striking power. As the wind blew and played with the fallen leaves under the cloudy skies, I could not help shivering at the thought of what had to occur for this monument to be erected...
