Harper's Bazaar, August 2010

Those who say that Torture Isn't Culture, have OBVIOUSLY never been to a Corrida de Toros (Bullfight) or a Pelea de Gallos (Cockfight). They miss out on the feeling of adrenaline rushing through the observers veins. Every move could be the last and the connoisseurs appreciate the risks implicated and the art such events showcase. I am definitely NOT justifying animal fights while those around the fight gamble away their life savings. I am talking about HISTORY here. Bullfights, as well as, cockfights, might be torture for the selected few, but they ARE CULTURE for the masses. They represent much more than what the naked eye of an ignoramus can perceive.

If you can't handle it, then don't watch it. But let those who appreciate it, enjoy it. That's all there is to it. There is not any need to complicate or debase it!
